| Marriage---what a blessed state, Ordained by God above. The union of two persons Who are very much in love. A wedding is so beautiful! Candles, flowers and rings, A wedding gown and music, With cake and clothes to make. Friends dress up in best attire. The floral business thrives. Suits go to the cleaners, And what gift should we buy? Mothers need their handkerchiefs, They want so not to cry; But yet in spite of everything, The tears come to their eyes. The organ chimes start sounding; The bride now comes in view. Eager eyes are watching Midst whispers in the pew. Her beauty is breath taking. The groom can hardly wait To take the vows that very soon Will claim her for his mate. And then the minister steps forth, So dignified and neat. He looks them both right in the eyes And begins to challenge each. "Do you take this woman as your bride--- This woman pure and true? If so, you now may answer, Look at her and say, "I do.!" And then he turns and says to her, "This man who stands by you, If you promise to be his loving wife, Look at him and say, 'I do'!" Again with unfeigned awe, he says, "For better or for worse--- For richer, poorer---or when you're well, Or illness with its curse!" For all the joys and pleasures, too, That make you man and wife, We' wish for you, above all things, That God shall lead your lives!! |
